Close A Life Event

To close a life event in Oracle HCM (Human Capital Management), you generally need to follow these steps. This is commonly done in the Benefits module of Oracle HCM when an employee has a life event (such as marriage, birth, divorce, etc.) that affects their benefits eligibility.

Steps to Close a Life Event in Oracle HCM:

  1. Log in to Oracle HCM: Use your credentials to access the system.

  2. Navigate to the Benefits Module:

    • Go to the Benefits Administration area. You might find this under a “Benefits” or “Benefits Administration” menu, depending on your role and permissions.
  3. Search for the Employee:

    • Find the employee for whom the life event was recorded. Use the search functionality to locate the employee by name, employee ID, or another identifier.
  4. Open the Life Event:

    • Once you’ve selected the employee, look for the Life Events section. This is where the system tracks any life events that impact benefits (e.g., marriage, birth, adoption, etc.).
  5. Review and Validate:

    • Ensure that the necessary changes (such as benefit selections) have been made in response to the life event. The employee might need to have updated their benefit selections during the open window for the life event.
  6. Close the Life Event:

    • After validating the changes, find the option to “Close” or “Finalize” the life event. This might appear as a button or link that confirms the life event is complete.
    • In some configurations, you may need to run a process to close life events in bulk or confirm changes made during a specific window.
  7. Process and Confirm:

    • Once the life event is closed, confirm that it is marked as Closed or Completed in the system. The system should now reflect the updated benefits for the employee.
  8. Run Any Necessary Batch Jobs:

    • In some cases, you may need to run additional batch processes in Oracle HCM to process any changes made due to the life event (e.g., benefits enrollment or payroll adjustments).

Additional Considerations:

  • Permissions: Make sure you have the necessary permissions to access and update life events.
  • Life Event Approval: Some life events may require approval by HR or Benefits Administrators before they can be closed.
  • Audit Trail: Oracle HCM usually maintains an audit trail of life events and the actions taken, so be sure to check for any errors or incomplete tasks before closing.
